< Beacon Firefighters Get New Uniforms (1 September 2009) >

BEACON (1 September 2009) - The Beacon Firefighters started with New York State Correctional Officer gray uniforms with triangle patches. Then they moved onto button up blue Dickie uniforms with badges, collar brass, and name tags. As the industry has continued to evolved so have the uniforms. The firefighters will now wear a darker blue polo shirt for their summer uniforms.

As the health of firefighters has continued to be a hot button topic, many fire departments have transitioned into polo uniforms in the summertime. Polo shirts afford firefighters a cooler comfort to reduce the risk of heat related injuries. In addition the name tags and badges are now embroidered into the uniforms removing the danger of hanging metal articles that can get hung up or penetrate a firefighter.

The new uniforms are a standard blue light weight polo that features an embroidered last name of the firefighter on his right chest, an embroidered badge on his left chest. It features the patch on the left sleeve and "City of Beacon Fire" screen printed on the back.
